Basil’s Obituary
Basil Leonard Clark left us the afternoon of March 10, 2021 at 72 years of age while a resident at Carleton Manor with his wife Elizabeth and daughter by his side. Just three days shy of their 45th Wedding Anniversary.
Born the fourth child of late Albert & Luella (Mason) Clark in Woodstock, NB, November 16, 1948 at a whopping weight of 3 lbs 8 oz. Basil is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Robertson); daughter, Erin & Jay Sharp; son, Bryan & Danielle Clark; Three Grandchildren, Wyatt and Aiden Clark, Abigail Sharp. Siblings: Georgie (late Bob) Potter, Charles (late Dianne) Clark, Carolyn Davis and David Clark along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and grandson Thomas Roy.
Basil graduated from Meductic Consolidated School 1967. He left New Brunswick after graduation to move to Northern Manitoba to work for the Hudson Bay Company. He continued his career with them until 1974 when he returned back to New Brunswick. He met Elizabeth Robertson at Simonds High School in Saint John where church services were being held. They were married March 13, 1976 in Lower Brighton. Basil & Elizabeth lived in Saint John until 1977 while Elizabeth finished her nursing and he worked at Save Easy. They moved back to Woodstock in 1977 and he worked seasonal work with Department of Transportation. They welcomed a baby girl, Erin Jayne, in March of 1979 and a baby boy, Bryan Robertson, in July of 1980. With layoff from Department of Transportation in the late 1980s, Basil continued with strawberry and vegetable gardening while supplying many local grocery stores from Woodstock to Saint John and biweekly trips to Grand Manan. Basil volunteered with the Lower Brighton Wesleyan Church over the years as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent. He also served on the Church Board. Dad made sure we were never bored with many a walking trip during hunting season to find a partridge or two or working on the woodlot with his horse Topsy. He ensured we were never hungry with his famous boiled potatoes & hot dogs. Dad was always on the sidelines whether at a soccer game, basketball game, Track & Field Meet or a band performance. Highlight for Basil was to take the family across Canada in the Summer of 1992. Then in 1995 travelled back to Winnipeg, MB to watch Bryan compete in Track & Field for Team NB. Basil’s pride & joy were his grandchildren, Wyatt, Aiden & Abigail. Even after his stroke in 2014, he was sure to make sure he kept them in line if they ever acted out.
There are many tales of Basil’s excursions and adventures they family could tell.
Resting at the Scott Funeral Home, 815 Main Street, Woodstock, NB. With visitation on Friday March 12, 2012 from 4 pm – 8pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 13 at 2 pm from the Scott Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jacob Ebbett will be officiating with interment in the Lower Brighton Cemetery at a later date.
If desired donations may be made to the Lower Brighton Wesleyan Church or the Lower Brighton Cemetery.
