Davis, Barry Walter Bernard
If you met Barry, you’d know about his wicked sense of humour. Always ready with a well-placed quip or a joke professionally delivered. So, it is with great sadness, to announce the sudden passing of Barry Walter Bernard Davis, Thursday, September 10 at Belleville General Hospital, following a complicated surgery this past July.
Survived, and lovingly remembered, by his wife, Erika of 37 years, his children Kirsten (Tom), Kevin and Adin (Wendy). Barry quietly loved and enjoyed his grandchildren, Olivia (Ryan), Jacob (Jordee), Austin, Carter, Sophia and Nikos. His latest joy was Adeline, Barry’s first great-granddaughter.
Barry joined the RCAF in November 1967 as a pilot and went on to fly a variety of aircraft in his career from the Chipmunk, Dak, Buff, Herc and completed his career on the AWAC. As he was fond of saying, “Most of the planes I flew are now in Trenton at the National Air Force Museum of Canada.” Throughout his career, he travelled the world; home bases included everywhere from Borden, Portage La Prairie, Winnipeg, Summerside, Trenton, Ottawa and Geilenkirchen along with multiple UN deployments to the Middle East. In 2000, he retired into genteel obscurity in Belleville. Barry spent his remaining years happily travelling and exploring all corners of North America with his “trusty side-kick” Erika in various RVs. He dedicated years of service with Wheels of Hope (Canadian Cancer Society) providing patient transportation to and from cancer treatments as part of the Volunteer Driving Program, and further filled his time tinkering with electronics and computers, boating, and casually considered oceanic-SCUBA diving as one of his many hobbies.
Barry’s ashes will be placed in a niche at the Belleville Cemetery with close family attending.
The family welcomes a gathering of friends at his beloved home in Belleville, Saturday Sept. 18 2:30-4:30PM. In lieu of flowers, Barry’s family requests donations be gratefully directed to the Belleville General Hospital Foundation in his memory.
