Obituary
Barry Reginald Cundy, 73, of Kelowna BC, passed away on September 19, 2021 after a valiant battle with cancer. Barry was born on April 9, 1948 to Henry and Joan Cundy in Dawson Creek, the youngest of three children. After graduating from Kelowna Secondary School he went on to become a mechanic and later joined Western Star Trucks. Being a “jack of all trades” he worked in construction, he was a bobcat operator, a delivery driver with ATS, and his most favorite job was selling car parts at swap meets around the area.
In 1967 he met his best friend, Vickie and they married in 1969. Anyone who knows them knows they were a perfect match. They were always seen together, hand in hand. Barry and Vickie loved spending time on or near the water. Barry loved the ocean in particular and would often sweep Vickie away on a weekend to watch the sunset in Birch Bay.
Barry leaves behind three loving daughters and six loving granddaughters. Tina Harms (Brian, Matisse and Peyton of Creston), Jodi Fayant (Rod, Piper and Haley Cundy of Trail), and Amber Batke (Clay, Quincy, and Emily of Kelowna). Over the years, Barry took in and cared for many friends and family members. Helping to house, encourage and support them. Barry welcomed and accepted everyone. There wasn’t anyone with whom he couldn’t connect.
Barry’s family meant more to him than anything else in the world, even though he talked more about old cars. He was a loving grandfather, father, and husband. He was always found cheering from the soccer sidelines, sneaking Timbits to the grandkids, or using pancakes as frisbees. He had an amazing sense of humour and was always young at heart. He loved to cruise around backroads and alleys in search of old cars and other deals and could often be found at a swap meet, auction or flea market. It didn’t matter where he was, someone always knew him and he enjoyed the conversation. He loved meeting up with his car club friends to trade parts, ideas and stories.
Barry was predeceased by his sister, Pat Cundy. He is survived by his brother Joe Cundy as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
A bursary for KSS automotive students will be set up in Barry’s memory. A celebration of life will be held at Everden Rust on Sunday September 26, 2021. Due to restrictions, physical attendance will be by invite only.
