Lorne was born on March 15, 1938 in Hubbard Saskatchewan. He attended “The Yorkton Collegiate Institute” and right out of high school Dad started his career with Sask. Tel as a lineman, moving to Estevan Saskatchewan, where his 2 beautiful daughters were born. His next move was packing up the family to move to Dawson Creek for a few months; surely Mom was on to his “pattern of adventures” by now. Lorne was now working as a radio tech who monitored Microwave sites on tops of local mountains. Many an hour was spent crawling up a mountain road or not, in a snowcat to finally get to a building somewhere in the middle of nowhere.
In 1970 Dad moved to Clearwater where he worked for Canadian National & started a home-based business fixing local loggers’ radios. After retirement Dad moved to Blind Bay and joined the Shuswap Flyers flying club (creative, recreation club). In 2001 for their final adventure they moved back to Clearwater.
Lorne loved his family! He loved the spirit of the children around him. He was often referred to as the “Big Bear” but a “Gentle Big Bear” he was. Lorne also loved model airplanes, boats and ham radios! His articulate personality allowed him to construct model radio-controlled airplanes. Ham Radio construction was another hobby he enjoyed. It allowed him to build a radio from scratch then talk to people all over the world.
Lorne’s urn is now beside Madeline’s in Riverview Cemetery, Clearwater, BC. Condolences may be sent to the family at DrakeCremation.com
