Barbara Rebecca Marcum July 30 1934 November 3 2021

Barbara George Marcum – of Knoxville, went to claim her heavenly reward after a brief illness. Ms. Marcum passed away Wednesday night, November 3, 2021, at the University of Tennessee Medical Center at age 87. The youngest of eight children, Ms. Marcum grew up in Knoxville, graduating from Bearden High School. She worked for more than 20 years in the office of Knoxville Surgical Group, handling bookkeeping, transcription, and other tasks. Ms. Marcum always considered her biggest achievement to be as a single mom bringing up three sons. Following a divorce in 1971, she had to scramble to add breadwinner to her role of homemaker. Without a college education, she still managed to land a good job with Knoxville Surgical Group and support her family. Ms. Marcum was a devoted Christian and often remarked on how her faith sustained her through tough times. She attended various churches over the years and was a member of Washington Pike United Methodist Church.
Ms. Marcum is preceded in death by her other brothers and sisters.
She is survived by sons, Ed Marcum and his wife Lisa Marcum, of Knoxville; Derek Marcum and fiancé Joni Simcoe, of Maynardville; and Mark Marcum, of Chattanooga; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 10:00-11:00 AM Friday, November 12, 2021, at Bridges Funeral Home. Family and friends will then gather later that day at 12:45 PM at Greenwood Cemetery for a 1:00 PM graveside service with Rev. Cliff Amos officiating. Arrangements by Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike, 865-523-4999. www.bridgesfuneralhome.com
