Barbara was born and raised in Kings Acre road, Hereford England; a city famous for its Hereford cattle and Bulmers Cider. She left school at 16 years of age and went to secretarial college where she passed with honours as a shorthand typist. She also learned to play the piano. Sang in her local church choir and was secretary of a local jazz club.
In 1959, at a collage dance she met her future husband Graham. They married in July 1961.
Their first son David was born in April 1962 and Mark son number two in November 1964.
Later they were blessed with two grand children, Adam and Tommy.
In 1975 Graham’s work took him to Soroako in Indonesia with the Canadian Mining company, INCO. Accepting this post was to change their pattern of life forever. Barbara took to playing Golf and also organising help and support for the local jungle village community. She also became secretary of the Soroako Golf Club. She was a very much a people person loved by all who knew her, whatever their nationality or religion.
The ‘expatriate’ lifestyle lived and loved by Barbara and Graham allowed for extensive travel and this they did in abundance travelling around the world many times; Barbara even completing the circumnavigation on one occasion by herself. They both left the Far East in 1988 when Graham’s work took them to Canada’s northern city of Thompson, Manitoba. There, they both spent eight happy years with Barbara enjoying ice fishing and making snow mobile trips out to their remote cabin in winter, or boating out there in the summer.
Her two ‘little boys’ were her pride and joy even when they were both closer to middle age.
Barbara’s Christmas dinner with the family was a staple each year when on vacation in Hereford. Barbara was also extremely proud of her two grand children and their achievements and would tell anyone willing to listen all about them. Graham retired in 1994 and they both moved to West Bay on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, Canada.
Barbara developed Cancer in 2017 but after a brave battle finally lost the fight on Friday 28th May 2021 when pneumonia struck at a time when her immune system was at its lowest.
She will be sadly missed not only by family but by all who knew her.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
