BAKER Dorothy Evelyn nee Perry —

BAKER, Dorothy Evelyn (née Perry)

The five children of Dorothy and Bill Baker: Patricia “Poppy”(Richard) Angus, Murray (Linda) Baker, Lynda Baker; Sharon (Kevin) Pring, and Ronald (Rebecca Battagin) Baker would like to announce the passing of their beloved mother Dorothy Baker in Kelowna on August 8, 2021, at the age of 94 predeceased by her husband Bill in 1997.
Dorothy saw a lot of changes during her lifetime growing up in the City of Kelowna. Born July 1927 the seventh of eleven children to Nina and Harold Perry who were pioneering orchardists, on the East Kelowna Bench. She married Bill Mayfield Baker in April of 1948 and enjoyed 49 years of marriage.
She was predeceased by her son-in-law Richard Angus; three brothers Richard, Bernard, and Clifford; and two sisters Monica Tallman and Nora Gunning. Her surviving siblings are Arthur, Marjorie Stephens, Leonard (Sheila), June Toms, and Tony. Dorothy’s 6 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great, Great Grandchildren, along with many, many nieces and nephews also survive her.
Mum had a short career before she met Dad who had come to the Okanagan from New Westminster to pick fruit after serving in the Canadian Air Force during WW2. They met at a softball game, as mum was active and competitive in sports. Dorothy resided in her family home, Bakers Acre, for 73 years. She dedicated her life to her family creating a wonderful home. She was known for her beautiful garden, which mum and dad created from a patch of sandy soil in Glenmore. So many friends and family comment about her incredible delicious and prolific vegetable garden, her yummy cookies and beautiful flowers.
When Bill and Dorothy first built their home in Glenmore there were very few homes in the area we have childhood memories of a local farmer who would drive his sheep to a new pasture down the middle of what is now Clifton Road and the milkman came to deliver bottles of milk to the house.
Known as Aunt D by her nephews and nieces she was extremely well-loved. The Bakers were known for many family celebrations at their home especially during Kelowna’s beautiful summers. Mum also enjoyed the numerous travels with Dad throughout the world that they were privileged to experience together.
A date for a celebration of life will be determined when it is safe to do so.
