Avis Ostafichuk, beloved wife of the late Nick Ostafichuk; passed away on March 19, 2021
.
Avis is survived by her children, Herb (Linda) and their children, Cheryl and Janice; Dianne (Pat) Latumus and their children, Gayle and Melanie; Dale (Linda) and their children, Jonathan and Danielle. Avis is also survived by daughter-in-law, Michelle Ostafichuk; sister-in-law, Thelma Brown; six grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several close friends. Predeceased by husband, Nick; son, Robert; and many dear relatives and friends.
Avis moved from Retlaw to Vauxhall with her parents, Bert and Dorothy Dutfield. She took all of her schooling in Vauxhall. She had two ponies and often during school holidays rode from Vauxhall acrossthe prairie to Taber to visit her Grandma. Her Grandma thought this was a great idea and kept the pony in her backyard during these visits. Avis would also ride one of the ponies to Retlaw to take music lessons.
Avis married her husband, Nick Ostafichuk; and they took up farming in the Vauxhall area. Avis was active in the order of the Eastern Star and St. Stephen Anglican Church where she would often have church services in her home, the Vauxhall seniors club and also often volunteered as a canvasser for different groups. Avis and Nick retired in Vauxhall in 1974. She was later talked into being a lab technician for Vauxhall Foods.
Many happy hours were spent fishing, camping and visiting with friends. Avis liked playing games and learning to play bridge became a favourite pastime. Avis and Nick enjoyed their retirement and especially the time spent with their children, grandchildren, and family friends.
A small, private service will be held in Lethbridge at Archmount Memorial Gardens at a later date. If anyone so desires, memorial tributes may be made to a charity of the donors choice.
