Annie Marie (Peggy) Carey

We the family of Annie Marie (Peggy) Carey sadly announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, September 19, 2021 at the Northside Community Guest Home at the age of 103.
Born in Bras d’Or on July 12, 1918, Peggy was the youngest of nine children to her parents the late William and Florence (Foster) Clifford. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband John H. Carey, a teenage daughter Kathleen, two daughters in infancy, grandson, John Carey and a daughter-in-law Edith, sisters; Florence King, Dollie Muggah and Daisy Todd, brothers; Vince, William, Ernest, Harry and Leslie Clifford.
Peggy is survived by her daughters; Anne M. (John) Camp, Arnprior, Ontario, Faith (Kim) Lantz, Sydney River, sons; John W. (Beezer) Carey, North Sydney and Kevin P. (Wilma) Carey, Sydney Mines, also by eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was a dedicated member of St. Joseph Parish, Bras d’Or, a choir member and first President of the Catholic Women’s League. Although Mom had many hobbies and talents, she got the most joy from painting scenic Cape Breton and its historical sites. She was also a talented musician and played multiple instruments.
The family extends its gratitude to the staff of the Northside Community Guest Home for the care mom received during her stay; especially her special angels who cared for her on a daily basis and to Dr. Peter Poulos.
There will be no visitation at mom’s request. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Church, Bras d’Or on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Chinonso Alaribe presiding. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Covid-19 restrictions will be followed with the wearing of masks, limited seating in the church and social distancing.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
