Mrs. Annie (Doyle) Whalen was born and raised in Grates Cove, Trinity Bay, Newfoundland and Labrador. The daughter of John and Margaret Doyle. After completing college education, she moved to Corner Brook to begin a teaching career and it is there she met her beloved John Whalen. Married in 1958, they would move to Stephenville and begin their family with John going into the construction business and eventually creating Whalen Enterprises with their two sons Gerard and Michael. Annie devoted her life to her family and ensured her children were exposed to many opportunities around sports, service clubs and the arts. In keeping with her passion for her children’s activities, she was a secretary of the Stephenville Rotary Music Festival from 1975 until 1979. She was also a parent volunteer for most of their many interests . Her encouragement and support of their activities gave them many positive experiences which they will all be eternally grateful for. She took so much pride in the home she and John built and was always delighted to have a new person sign her guest book. Her friends and neighbors will always recall the many “fancy” dinners she hosted. Annie was a very talented and generous person and many of her family and friends will remember her through one of her hand crafted creations. A graceful, independent lady, relying on her faith to carry her through life’s trials.
Annie leaves her children Margaret Phillips (Barry) of Quispamsis, NB; Bernadette Whalen of Paradise, Michael Whalen (Susan)Stephenville, her daughter in law Bernice Whalen, Stephenville; her brother Clarence Doyle of Labrador City; and grandchildren Gerard and Joshua Whalen, Lindsay, Elizabeth, David, Matthew, and Steven Phillips, Michael, Conor, and Colin O’Driscoll, and Heather and Mark Whalen
Predeceased by her beloved husband John (2000) and her precious son Gerard (2004), sisters Mary and Marie.
