Anne Lightfoot, age 92, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 18, at her home in Edmonton. Anne was born in Edmonton, Alberta in January of 1929. On August 16, 1952, she married Leroy (Roy) Boston Lightfoot and together they raised five children.
Anne was a reader, a writer, a volunteer, wife, loving mother, beloved Nan/Grandma, and a treasured friend. She will be remembered for her quiet, tireless support for her community, her positive outlook and unwavering belief in the potential of everyone she encountered. In recognition of her work with the United Church, WINGS (Women in Need Growing Stronger), Bissell Centre, and her active lobbying for reforms to adoption and her particular passion, quality child care, she received the Canada Volunteer Award in 1989. Anne believed that her greatest contribution was to help other people achieve what they wanted.
Anne will be lovingly remembered and missed by her children: Neil (Lana), Penelope, Kathy and Helen (Andy); her grandchildren: Jodie (Nicholas), Jay (Christine), Colin (Celine), Alec (Matthew), Tara, Daina (Austin), Chase, Kyle, Aaron, Elliot (Kristine), Avery and Farquar; her great-grandchildren: Jasper, Juno, Ty, Emma, Sarah, Caleb and Finn; her sister-in-law, Joan Fanthorpe; former in-laws: Theresa, Paul, Pauline and Mitch; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Roy; her son, Harry; and brother, Alec McEachern.
Our family thanks Dawn Branton for the support she provided to both Anne and Roy. Dawn’s help was a key part in Anne being able to remain in her own home. Many thanks also to Dr. Kijewski, who provided outstanding care and support.
A private Memorial Service will be held for the immediate family on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. A Celebration of Anne’s Life and interment of her urn will occur in the spring. To view the livestream of the service, please click here.

  1. I will remember fondly my family visits with Anne, her warmth and acceptance, and her joy in having her loved ones keeping company close by. Her thoughtful kindness, humour and wisdom were gifts she shared so generously, and memories of her beautiful smile and laughter will always be with us. Hugs to all the Lightfoot clan on this day.
