Anne Elizabeth Josephine Coates Moore Tuesday January 19th 2021

Coates, Anne Elizabeth Josephine.
October 2, 1935 – January 19 2021
After a difficult struggle with Lewy Body Dementia, Anne – with an “e” – passed away peacefully at Parkview Meadows Gardenview Long Term Care Centre in Townsend, Ontario on January 19, 2021 at the age of 85. Beloved wife of Ed for over 61 years. Anne will be dearly missed by her son Chris (Mary Hoo) of Westport, Ontario, her daughter Angela (Rick Houser) of Caledonia and her granddaughter Rebecca Houser whom she adored. Rebecca was the light of Anne’s life, and she took every opportunity to proudly share with those she met that “Rebecca flies a jet!”
Anne was an Eastern Ontario girl. She was born in Kingston and grew up in the Belleville-Napanee area. Anne graduated from Kingston General Hospital as an RN in 1957. She met Ed during her training and they married in 1959.
Anne spent most of her nursing career with the Victorian Order of Nurses in the Haldimand-Norfolk region. She was a competent, caring nurse, loved by her patients and respected by her colleagues. Throughout her life she gave back to her community. Although not a skater, she loved the sport and was the founding president of the Cayuga Figure Skating Club. She was also a founding member of the Haldimand-Norfolk Women’s Shelter. Anne enjoyed curling and was ”house mother” at Glanford Curling Club for many years. She also enjoyed time on the links and for many summers golfed with the “Happy Hackers”. Anne loved music, theatre, her garden and the birds that visited the backyard. She was never far from the kitchen, making luncheons and dinners for Caledonia Rotary Club meetings, helping with church dinners and making meat pies by the thousands! Proceeds from pie sales helped to fund a number of community and church initiatives. Anne saw food not just as food but as a way to comfort and bring people together. If a family experienced sickness or hardship, Anne would arrive with meat pies ”just to help with supper.” At home, Anne’s meals were Food Network worthy and always made from the heart. Anne lived a full life and was grateful for wonderful friends and the many travels around the world with Ed. She experienced places that people dream of.
The family finds it difficult to put into words their admiration and appreciation for Gardenview’s wonderful frontline staff. Their friendly, compassionate attention to Anne’s needs, particularly during her most trying times exceeded all expectations. We would also like to thank friends and neighbours for their understanding and assistance throughout Anne’s journey.
Anne canvassed for the Heart and Stroke Foundation for many years. Due to her dementia, Anne was unable to canvass last year. Please consider the Foundation should you wish to make a donation in Anne’s memory.
As per Anne’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to COOPER FUNERAL HOME, Jarvis (519-587-4414). Friends are invited to send condolences and sign The Book Of Memories at www.cooperfuneralhome.ca
Rest in peace, Anne,
You will always be in our hearts.
