Obituary
Born in the small town of Cut Knife, SK on May 20, 1945, to Bill and Muriel Adie, Ann was destined for greatness. Her inquisitiveness and unique sense of humour, her ease at building meaningful connections, her sense of community and spiritual faith, her love of sports and games, and her mischievous, fun-spirited nature were present from her earliest days and guided her throughout her life.
Ann headed to the big city after high school, with career aspirations in mind as she studied to become an x-ray technician in Regina. Little did she know that picking up a good-looking hitch hiker in Indian Head, SK during her training would ultimately change the course of her life. That hitch hiker was Don Scobie. They married in 1966, living in Regina and Brooks, AB before moving to Hinton, AB in 1967 when Don got a teaching position at the local high school.
Hinton quickly became home to Ann. She embraced the community with open arms and was so proud to be a Hintonite! Her kids were born and raised there. She had a successful real estate career. She built amazing, life-long friendships. She dominated (and helped grow) the golf and curling scenes. She took advantage of all this beautiful location had to offer, spending the seasons hiking, kayaking and cross-country skiing with her 16-year partner Sean Floyd and their many friends. The Beaver Boardwalk was always one of her favourite places to explore, proudly showcasing it to visiting friends and family.
Making her community a better place was important to Ann. She served on various boards, helped coordinate and volunteer at countless community events, supported the local arts scene and was a proud member of the Anglican and Lutheran congregations. If she wasn’t at the Good Companions Hall playing bridge and Mahjong, she could be found on the pickleball court, playing for several hours at a time. Her unbridled enthusiasm and competitive spirit were present in all she did.
Although the pandemic recently impacted her typical plans, travel was such a big part of her life. Europe, the Caribbean, Palm Springs, Fairmont, and cruises to the Mediterranean and Russia were just a few of her favourites. And of course, her and Sean’s annual treks to Mesa were a highlight the last few years.
While it is extremely difficult for us to say goodbye to such a strong, active, caring, giving, funny, loving and one-of-a-kind force of nature, we are thankful she is now at peace. There is a hole that will never be filled, but we are so fortunate to have a life time of memories and stories to help ease our pain. Her infectious laugh, incredible smile, fun-loving spirit and generosity will be missed every day but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ann’s memory to the Hinton Healthcare Foundation, an important organization supporting and enhancing healthcare services in Hinton. She received such amazing care here and would be extremely pleased to know that funds are staying local to help improve the quality of life for Hinton residents.

Rest in Peace, our dearest Ann Scobie. Life won’t be the same without you here physically, but we will do our ABSOLUTE BEST to keep your memory and spirit alive in all we do.
