Obituary for Ann “Annie” Marie Green
It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we announce Annie’s peaceful passing at CEE hospital Saturday evening.
Annie is survived by her children, Jessica Abraham of Fort McMurray and Geoffrey Abraham of Petrolia; sisters Cheryl (David) Brown of London and Jan (Moy Sr.) Sutherland of Port Alberni BC and brother Tom Green of Petrolia. She is the cherished grandmother of Liam and Roan Holland and Taten MacDougall. Annie was predeceased by her parents Marg and Dr. Bob Green of Petrolia.
Being born and raised in Petrolia, Annie was a proud Hard Oiler. As a young adult she moved to the Calgary area where she lived and worked for many years. She returned to her family home in Petrolia almost twenty years ago and helped take care of her parents.
Annie lived life to the fullest through enjoying simple pleasures. Her activities, personal travel and her social media interests led Annie to develop many wonderful friendships as well as keep in regular contact with family members scattered around the world. One of her favourite pastimes was scouring local yard sales, auctions and resale stores for collectibles which she turned into a successful EBay business. Annie was also a talented photographer whose passion was recording breathtaking images of the full moon. Many dear friendships were developed through her local volunteer work, especially those at the St. Vincent de Paul shop in Petrolia.
Annie adored her birds, which could always be heard squawking in the background and her cats. She was happiest gardening, canning and feeding her family, friends and the local wild life. Her nieces, nephews and grandchildren enjoyed spending evenings with her around a bonfire sharing stories, roasting marshmallows and identifying the constellations.
Cremation has taken place. A public celebration of Annie’s life will be held at a future date. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at CEE for their exceptional care and kindness. In lieu of flowers Annie would prefer that you support your local branch of the Canadian Legion, local charities and the CEE hospital.
Annie encourages you to buy local, support your community and to feed the neighbourhood birds.
“We see you horseback riding, your manes lifting in the air.
On wide open prairies where the fields are so fair.
So many family and friends now to greet you, on your journey home.
You are loved, you are healed, you will never stand alone.
You’ve worked long, loved hard and left your wisdom behind.”
