We are heartbroken to announce the death of our lovely mother, Alice Marie MacDonald of St. Peter’s on April 29, 2021 at her residence at St. Anne’s Centre in Arichat, Richmond County, NS. Alice leaves to mourn her two daughters, Shelia Marie Landry (George), Nine Mile River, NS; and Elizabeth Ann MacDonald (Joey), Irish Cove, NS; sister, Mary Andrews; brother, Michael Weeks. Alice was predeceased by her husband, Robert Leo Keith MacDonald (Keats); her parents, John and Clara Weeks; brothers, Edward, Paul, John; sisters, Veronica and Agnes; and long time friend and soul mate, Albert Lawrence Stone.
Mom started her working career at a young age in St. Peter’s working at the MacDonald’s Hotel. She married in 1959 and raised a family of two daughters, who became her world. After her tragic and sudden loss of her husband, Keats in 1972, she became our Mother and Father; and took the role very seriously. Mom was a strong, independent, honest lady that still amazes us today at how well she carried on and built a lovely life for all of us with little means. She could stretch a dollar like no other. Thank you so much mom for you being the person you were. She loved her little piece of land in St. Peter’s and she kept her home immaculate as well as her yard. She took great pride in her hard work to keep her home, flowers, and gardens lovely. She didn’t believe in sitting idle. There was always something to do; whether in the home or out in the yard, and a lovely beef stew or boiled dinner was always on. Her care for the ones she loved around her was amazing.
Mom would swim with us, peddle bikes with us, cross country ski with us, snowshoe and dance with us. She was our Mother and out best friend always, right up until her last breath. She kept up with the goings on in our lives and would still give us advice and just chit chat daily with us. If honesty gets you through Heaven’s gates Mom, you are there. We will never forget the homebaked goodies and the decorations from season to season and holidays were so special. Mom truly loved the sun and when she passed at sunrise, she left us with the loveliest sunrise to warm and help us accept that she is no longer with us in person, but she is in the warm morning sunrise.
To the two special RN nurses, Alicia and Jenny: Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Mom enjoyed you all at the St. Anne’s Centre and told us that it is the best place to be. She was very happy there and we are both extremely grateful for that. Thank you all!!
St. Peter’s was the little village that Alice adored. She was a quiet person, not a big social butterfly, but she was content and happy with her little village and where she lived. She would love to say, “Shop Local!” Mom was a very wise lady who kept up with all the news and her common sense took her through life and met all hardships head –on. You do the best you can; you have to just keep on going.
We hold you dear, Mom. We love you and will see you in each sunrise.
Mom’s wishes were cremation and a private graveside service that will be held at a later date in Johnstown, Richmond County, NS. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Green’s Funeral Home, 507 Bernard St., Port Hawkesbury.
