Alice Frances Ogden Blackburn Martin passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, in Ottawa, after a long illness. Born in Montreal, August 10, 1925, daughter to the late Robert Lennox and Edith (Cochrane) Blackburn, Ogden resided most of her life along the Ottawa River, in Aylmer, Quebec.
She is survived by her loving husband for 65 years, Frederic Shaw Martin, her children, Jane, Peter, Sarah, Caroline (Kaveh), Alexandra and four grandchildren, Zoe, John, Hope and Haley. She is predeceased by her sister Mary Blackburn.
Raised in Quebec, Ogden attended Elmwood School for Girls in Ottawa. Upon graduation from Elmwood, she attended Trinity College at the University of Toronto and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1945. Her passion for nursing was always in the forefront and in 1948 she received her Nursing degree from the Royal Victoria Hospital for Nursing in Montreal.
Ogden’s passion and caring for others continued throughout her life living in the Ottawa area. She was Chairman of the Board at Elmwood School; she was dedicated to years of service at the Perley & Rideau Veteran’s Health Centre; the Victoria Order of Nurses; and the Canadian Red Cross. Memberships included The Royal Ottawa Golf Club (Quebec), Toronto Ladies Club (Toronto), and Lyford Cay Club (Bahamas).
Ogden will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched. It is her presence, her spirit, and her wisdom that will forever be in the hearts and minds of her devoted family.
A private family service will be held followed by interment at Beechwood Cemetery in Ottawa.
Her family would like to thank all the PSWs, nurses and the Valley Stream staff for their extraordinary support and care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the charity of choice would be appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Alice Frances Ogden Blackburn-Martin Wednesday June 23rd 2021..
