Alfreda Nash (Pinksen) walked this earth for 96 years, always the mother and the caregiver to many. Her departure reminds us that angels are watching over us. On Christmas Eve, Alfreda joined her heavenly family and gained her wings. She came from a loving family, predeceased by her parents Simeon and Lavina Pinksen, and siblings Blanche Banks and Warrick Pinksen. Alfreda was predeceased by her husband of 49 years, James William Nash, and their eldest daughter, Mary Jane Edmondson. Leaving to celebrate her life and honour her memory are her three children Marion, Genevieve (Bertram) and Gerard (Sharon), five grandchildren Stephen (Kristin), Jillian (Justin), Leah (Brad), Laura (Daniel) and Evan (Jessica) as well as three great grand children. Alfreda was also very close to her special niece Doris, dear friends Sheila Lee, Theresa and Charlie Daly, Maureen and Sam McGrath, and her wonderful home-care worker and beloved friend Debbie Power.
Alfreda was well loved in her small hometown town of Seal Cove, White Bay. She was a compassionate spirit whose passion was caring for others, spending her early career in service in the nursing field. Alfreda was well known for opening her home and heart for others. She provided support and love for her family and friends, putting the needs of others ahead of her own and always put her children above all else. Lovingly remembered for her positive outlook, Alfreda found happiness and peace in her profound faith and always offered prayer for those who needed it, through her nightly rosaries. Fondly remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, she enjoyed spending time with her extended family and story telling of years gone by. Gardening, flowers, bingo and singing along with her favourite tune were just a few of her favourite things. A strong, empathetic, proud, and independent woman, she was an important role model to her extended family, always one to pass on words of wisdom and recite a quote for any situation. A family fixture that will not be forgotten and always loved, as she would say “don’t weep for me, rejoice with me.”
On the eternal shores, our hearts will meet to part no more.
Funeral to be held at The Basilica Cathedral of St. John the Baptist on Tuesday, Jan 4th, 2022 at 11am. Interment to follow.
