Alfred “Alf” Lang, of Hanover, was welcomed into the arms of the Lord peacefully after a brief illness at Hanover and District Hospital on Sunday, February 21, 2021. He was 85.
Alf was born on July 6, 1935 to the late Leonard and Laura (nee Schuknecht) Lang in Bentinck Township. Alf married the love of his life Shirley at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elmwood on September 22, 1956 and remained lifelong members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Alf was employed with Emke Plumbing & Heating, and then for 33 years he operated Lang’s Plumbing & Heating, from which he retired in 1996. His interests and hobbies also included a small farming operation with a cow/calf herd and draft horses. A kind hearted man, he was always able to help others out. He was a volunteer Fireman for the Elmwood Fire Department for 43 years and served as Captain. Alf met many friends through his journey on earth and was never too far away from Shirley. They truly were a couple to admire and look up to, passing his charm and hard work ethic on to his children. His work on many church functions, community activities, and fundraisers, and his input and involvement with many different committees, will be remembered by many community members – Alf was someone who put his whole heart into whatever he worked on.
Survived by devoted wife Shirley (nee Leifso) Lang of Hanover. Loved father of Brenda Ann (Dennis) Fischer , Gary (Donna) Lang, Wayne (Joni) Lang all of Elmwood and Janet (Doug) Wright of Chesley.
