Alex Gontier, better known as ‘Al’ and ‘Ace’ to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2021 at the age of 69 surrounded by his family. Alex will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Bev ‘Birdie’, and his three children Matt (Nicola), Robbie (Ned), and Angie (Pat). He will also be greatly missed by his 7 grandchildren Ethan, Lauren, Harper, Emmett, Logan, Oliver, and Hannah. As well by his brother, Wayne (Ann), brother-in-law, Jim (Judy) and all of his incredible nieces, nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his brother Gord.
Alex flew the Air Ambulance (Ornge) helicopter for over 30 years. He spent his life devoting himself to saving others. During his time flying he was awarded the ‘Mike Roach Distinction Award’ for “his dedication, teamwork and enthusiasm, which elevated the patient care program.” He was also known for his bravery, including carefully hovering over Lake Ontario to help rescue several people to safety.
He loved spending time at his cottage on Chandos Lake with his family and friends. He was a true craftsman and could build almost anything with his hands.
