Obituary
It is with great respect that we announce the passing of Albert A. Vincent on September 2, 2021 at the Loch Lomond Villa in Saint John. A TORY from birth, Albert was born in Summerside, PE, a son of the late Dyer and Elizabeth Vincent. He was the husband of the late Mary Vincent (Marshall). Albert was a member of Saint John City Council for 24 years, a city that he loved. He will fondly be remembered by many as “The Watchdog at City Hall”. He was a member of St. John Baptist (Mission Church) & Saint Clement and was very active with many boards and committees within the church. He was a member of the Conservative Party of Canada. His accomplishments were impressive and notable: he was appointed as the first and only Special Deputy in Canada as the union representative for the Atlantic Provinces Trowel Trades Council, he opened a training school in 1988 for bricklayers in Prince Edward Island with former Premier Lee; he was involved in the construction of mega-projects such as Point Lepreau, Market Square and the Saint John Regional Hospital; he was believed to be the longest serving member of the bricklayers union in Canada with over 70 years as a member; he served on the Public Housing Committee for 23 years; and was the City of Saint John’s representative on the 1985 Canada Games Organizing Committee which saw the construction of the Canada Games Aquatic Centre (brick of course) and a new UNB field house and track. Albert was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by his niece Genevieve Keen (Robert Burke) of Dartmouth, and his long-time friends: John Correia and Rod Borden. As well as by his parents and wife, Albert was predeceased by his brothers: Clarence Vincent and John Vincent; sisters: Beatrice Cameron and Florence Hill; and by his nephew Danny Vincent. Arrangements have been entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Rd., Saint John, NB (506-646-2424). Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 7, 2021 from 6-8 pm in the funeral home; his funeral service will be held on Wednesday September 8, 2021 at 1:30 pm in St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Rothesay.
