Alban Amiro
Alban Anthony Amiro, affectionally known as “Tum”,
age 87, of The Meadows, Yarmouth and formerly of Middle East Pubnico,
died March 16, 2021 in The Meadows. Born in Lower East
Pubnico, he was a son of the late Domond and Beatrice (Amirault)
Amiro. He was retired from the Royal Canadian Air
Force. He is survived by his step-son; Harald Biebel, Lower
Sackville, brother; Joseph, Middle East Pubnico; sisters-in-law,
Denise Amiro, Middle East Pubnico and Celeste Amiro, Shelburne and
several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife;
Margot Johanna Renka (Philipp), a son; John, brothers; Dolor, Father
Donald Amirault and Anselm; a sister; Margaret Amirault. Visitation
will be Thursday, March 18, 2021 from 7-8pm in the West Pubnico
Funeral Home, Middle West Pubnico. A Mass of Christian
burial will be held Friday, March 19, 2021 at 10am in Immaculate
Conception Roman Catholic Church, Middle East Pubnico with Fr. Cyrille
Assihou officiating. COVID-19 regulations must be
followed. The service will be live streamed on
the West Pubnico Funeral Home and Cremation Service Facebook
site. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Donations in
memory may be made to the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Fund or a
charity of choice. On line condolences may be forwarded to

Alban joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1952 and was
posted to RCAF Borden and went through School of Aerospace Technology
and Engineering (SFSATE). As a aero-engine technician, he
was then posted to 422 Fighter Jet Squadron in Uplands, Ontario to
train on F-86 jets. He was then posted to 4 Wing Baden
Soellingen, Germany to work on F-86 and T-33 jets. In 1955
he was posted to Greenwood to work on Lancasters, Neptunes, Argus and
Canso. In 1959 he was transferred to Torbay, NL with 103
Search and Rescue to work on Lancasters. In 1961 he was
posted to Shearwater to 101 Com Flight to work on Dakotas and
Experditors. He then went to Camp Borden on a technical
crewman course to go flying to different places in PEI, Ontario and
the US. He was then posted to 4 Fighter Wing, Baden Germany
to 422 Fighter Jet Squadron to work on 104 Star Fighter
jets. Although Tum did extensive travelling, his heart never
left East Pubnico to where he retired and spent many enjoyable years
surrounded by friends and family. He will be
missed.
