He is survived by his loving husband Allen Vegter, his brothers Eric (Sharon) of Tynemouth Creek, Norman (Sherry) of Quispamsis, brother-in-law Peter (Shauna) of Ponoka, Alberta, sister-in-law Donna (Bill) Moulton of Beaumont, Alberta and sister-in-law Janet of Ponoka, his nephews Shawn (Mandy) Fawcett, Jeremy (Lindsay) Fawcett, Ryan (Lisa) Fawcett, Thomas Moulton, and his nieces Meaghan (Ryan) MacMaster, Erin (Carl) Hartman and Brittany (Barrett) Miller and mother-in-law Irene Vegter of Wetaskiwin, Alberta as well as 5 great nephews and 5 great nieces, several aunts and one uncle, numerous cousins and a great multitude of friends. He will also be sadly missed by his fur children that were so near and dear to his heart, Alex, Lexie and Abby. Alan was predeceased by his parents, his father-in-law, nephew Eric Vegter as well as several aunts and uncles.
Alan’s musical career started early with him taking many top honours at local festivals, in both vocal and piano classifications. He started playing after school for a local dance studio and played and was in the choir at his church of Park Avenue United. Alan played in a variety of bands, including the Mystic Cycle that was the opening act for Chubby Checker in Moncton. Other bands included Just Us, as well as being the director of the Seabelles and Trebel Clef. He also in the 70’s recorded several records. Alan played a number of different venues in both NB and NS before becoming the resident pianist for CP at the following hotels, Chateau Laurier, Lake Louise, Kananaskis, Banff and Jasper Park Lodge. During this time, he met and played for Prime Ministers, dignitaries, and celebrities.
Alan met his soul partner, Allen in Alberta, where they were married at Hinton United Church. They loved exploring the mountains and camping with their many versions of RV’s. They eventually decided to return and retire to Tynemouth Creek. Alan continued to share his gift of music by teaching and playing at events in the St. Martins area and had just recently retired from his position of organist from Harmony United Church. Who ever has heard Alan knows what a gift he had, and he loved to share it, recently he had started posting recordings on his social medium and was happy to reconnect with people and friends thru his music. He had a marvelous outlook on life and lived it to the fullest. Throughout his life, his church was central to him and its teachings remained a cornerstone for his life. He loved his husband Allen very much and enjoyed their quiet home together filled with love, music and of course dogs!
Arrangements are entrusted to the Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424). In keeping with Alan’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service at this time. A Celebration of his Life will be held at a later date.

  1. We are so saddened to learn of Alan’s passing. We met Alan when he was the resident pianist at Jasper Park Lodge. We arrived from Edmonton early one Saturday afternoon in advance of a medical conference. We had a long and lovely conversation with Alan as we were the only ones in the lounge. At my request, Alan played the theme from the movie, “Somewhere in Time”. He knew it immediately and played it beautifully. Later in the evening, a reception was held in the same lounge with Alan, again, entertaining. As we walked into the room, Alan spotted us and began playing the theme from “Somewhere in Time”. We were overcome…it was like being in a movie. We have never forgotten that moment. It stands out as a highlight in our lives and we have often thought of Alan over the years. We regret that we were never able to tell him that he was part of a special moment in our lives. May he rest in peace.
Our condolences to his husband, Allen, and family.
    In sympathy,
Dr. Eugene and Gaye Wiggins Kretzul
