Alan Angus Corkum, formerly of Gagetown, died August 20, 2021
at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. Alan was born on March 20, 1938
in West Sackville, N.B., but spent most of his younger years in East
Chester, N.S.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Marjorie
(Biddiscombe) Corkum, four daughters, Christina Appleby (Ritchie
Jennings), Yvonne Evans (Darin), Gina Papineau-Couture (Kevin) and
Molly Corkum (Jim Cyr), eight grandchildren – Tyler, Luke, Celia,
Julia, Alyssa, Kathleen, Brad and Claire, one brother, Ted Corkum, and

Alan was a very proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for
28 years, first as a member of the Black Watch and later as a member
of the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Canadian Regiment where he rose to
the rank of Master Warrant Officer and Sgt.-Major of “C”
company. Alan always had his “boots shined and his buckles
polished”. In retirment Alan was also a fine designer and cabinet
maker.
Always up for a challenge, Alan served on the Gagetown
Village Council, then became Mayor. He was a two-time President of the
Union of Municipalities of New Brunswick. He was a lifetime member of
the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 71, where he served in many, if not
all, executive positions, also organizing and being emcee of the
yearly Remembrance Day Service.
A 25 year member of the Gagetown Rotary Club, he was awarded
a Paul Harris Fellowship. Alan was also a past president of the
Gagetown Gems Seniors’ Club and a lifetime member.
The family would like to thank all of the kind and caring
people at D.E.C.H., especially the staff on 4 NW, 4 SW, and
particularly Palliative Care (3E). Also thanks to Oromocto Extramural
and Dr. Greg Haines.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation or
service. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. For
those who wish, in lieu of a donation, please consider planting a tree
in Alan’s memory. Oromocto Funeral Home is entrusted with
