Obituary
Adeline Hanke – July 21, 1927 – September 16, 2021
The passing of Adeline marks the end of 107 years of Drews brothers and sisters.
It all started with the marriage of Johann Drews and Amelia Schnitzer in 1911. There followed the nine children that they raised in the Bainsville district in the RM of Aberdeen:
Herbert – February 1914 – July 2000 86 years
Arthur – February 1916 – August 2005 89 years
Roman – September 1917 – March 2002 85 years
Herman – April 1921 – October 2003 82 years
Ellen – November 1924 – April 2020 96 years
Fred – December 1925 – November 2020 95 years
Adeline – July 1927 – 94 years
Frieda – November 1929 – September 2019 90 years
Alma – May 1931 – December 1995 64 years
Johann and Amelia instilled in their children a strong work ethic which has been passed down from generation to generation.
Adeline married Emil, a young man who lived across the road from the Drews family, in 1945. They eventually moved to the Bergheim District, farming and raising a family – two daughters, Diane and Kathy, until they moved to Sutherland, a sub-division of Saskatoon.
They made one move, in 1967, just down the street from their original home, on 112th street where they contracted to build a new house. In 1978, Emil passed away at the young age of 57. Adeline continued working, ending a 30-year employment at the University Hospital as a seamstress.
Time passed, as it will, grandchildren and great grandchildren arrived, and her life was full. She continued to reside in her house, created a beautiful yard where family and friends gathered frequently, worked part-time for a caterer, travelled extensively with her sisters and became involved in a social club.
Adeline always had extensive back problems until she had surgery in 1964 that restored her ability to continue doing the things she enjoyed. However, in 2016, she had a very bad fall and medical problems intensified until she was uncomfortable living by herself. After a time, she became a resident of the Keedwell Assisted Living Centre until her passing.
She will be fondly remembered as Mom, Grandma Hanke and Aunty Adeline.
A Graveside Service will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Bergheim North Cemetery. Arrangements in care of Aimé Laventure – Mourning Glory Funeral Services (306) 978-5200.
