Hazel (nee Torfason) Kwasney
June 7, 1935 – April 21, 2021
Hazel was born on June 7, 1935 in Edmore, Saskatchewan. She lived in Edmore with her Mother (Annie Danyluk) and her father Harold Torfason who owned and operated a General Store. Later they moved to Elfros to run the family farm. While living on the farm Hazel helped with her 8 siblings, driving farm equipment and gardening. Hazel went to Wallhalla School where she loved playing sports. Her favorite was baseball and she had quite the arm. She graduated high school at Foam Lake Composite High School in Foam Lake. She lived in Yorkton and kept the books for a company prior going to Teachers College in Saskatoon. After graduation from College she took her first teaching job at Halitz School in the Wynyard district where she met Terry. Terry and Hazel met at a dance at a hall on a farm and fell in love. They married after two years together and have been married for 65 years. Hazel continued teaching in various areas. Some places are Riverton MB, Hamilton, Langley, Vancouver Bay, and Gibsons. Here they raised their sons Jason and Joel. They build, owned, and operated the business Suncoast Lumber & Milling on field road in Wilson Creek, and worked together daily until retirement.
Predeceased by her Mom, Dad, brother Victor, sisters Helen Schneider, Ivy Joye, brother-in-laws Albert Joye and Bill Budzinski.
Lovingly remembered by her husband Terry, sons Jason (Karen), Joel (Michelle), grandchildren Brooke, Cameron (Lori), Gayle (Tristan), Blake and Hailey, sisters Iris Budzinski, Rosalind (Peter) Sargent, Violet (Gary) Anderson, brothers Ivan (Lorraine) Torfason, Harold Torfason, brother-in-law Garnet Schneider, many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Hazel will be forever loved and missed by all who were blessed to have known her. Love you always! Special thank you to Doctor Bryson for his dedicated care to Hazel over the years. Would also like to send a big thank you to the Staff at St Mary’s Hospital for their compassion that was shown to Hazel during her stay.
The family asked that in lieu of flowers donations can be made in her name to either the Heart & Stroke Foundation, or the BC Cancer Foundation.
Her loving family!

Death notice for the town of: Gibsons, Province: Colombie britanique
We are deeply saddened to hear of Hazel’s passing. We shall all miss her. Since I first met Hazel in the late fifties, shortly after she married Terris, she was the classic image of a woman in love with a man. When Sheila first met Hazel at Harry & Elsies’ place in the seventies, she admired and has often referred to the obvious fondness that Hazel and Terris have for each other.
Whether it was an special event in Seachelt or Wynyard or when Hazel and Terris travelled East to Hamilton, they would talk about Jason and Joel and their families. Particularly, about their grand children, Brooke, Cameron, Gayle, Blake and Haley.
