Obituary
Obituary for Louise Tjhoen Ngo Cheung
September 25, 1931 – March 30, 2021
Louise Tjhoen Ngo Cheung, age 90, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2021. She was born September 25, 1931 in Jakarta, Indonesia. She moved to Hong Kong in her twenties and started working at The Royal International Lines, a Dutch shipping company, as she was fluent in both Dutch and English, not to mention Indonesian, Cantonese, Mandarin and many other Chinese dialect languages. She worked there for 27 years and was awarded a gold medallion in honour of her loyalty and service to the company.
After leaving RIL, she joined her uncle, Teddy Yip, a well known Casino Mogul with an Auto Racing Team. Because of her outgoing personality and good organization and management skills, she was given the responsibility of heading the Public Relations
Department, travelling with Teddy Yip to various Auto Racing venues in particular to the United States.
Louise met her husband, while she was at The Royal International Lines, and got married in 1960. After retirement, they immigrated to Canada in 1987 and became citizens in 1991. They lived happily together in Richmond, BC ever since with their 2 daughters and sons-in-laws close by.
Aside from being a loving, dedicated, and watchful mother to her 2 children, Louise was also very giving, caring and supportive of her husband and his brother’s family. She treated her brother-in-law’s 7 children just like her own and they love her back in return.
She was a great Mama to all. Louise’s passion is in cooking, not to mention eating!. She loves chilli peppers especially the hottest ones…habaneros. She was also an avid sewer and worked through the nights sewing school uniforms despite having to go to
work the next morning.
Louise’s life is a living example of being kind, hardworking, compassionate, and forgiving. She is survived by her husband, Tat Kwan, her 2 children, Ina and Sophia, sons-in-laws Calvin and Vince, god-daughter Linda, and 8 nieces and nephews and
their families, sister-in-law and her husband and their 5 children and families.
Louise will be missed by all and she will always be in our thoughts.
A pre-cremation memorial service was held on April 8,2021.
Memorial Donations
Request was made to donate to the Richmond Hospital Foundation in BC, in lieu of flowers. The hospital took very good care of Louise in the last years of her life. Many thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the hospital.
