Obituary of Lois Medlyn (nee Price)
MEDLYN, Lois (née Price) – Of St. Thomas, passed away at home, surrounded by loving family on Monday, April 12, 2021, in her 94th year. Beloved daughter of the late Harry (1928) and Verna (née Trembley) Price (1968), and sister of the late Donna Gordon (2015). Wife of the late Alfred “Chris” Gilchrist (1980) and the late Ernest Medlyn (1997). Also predeceased by infant son, Kevin Gilchrist (1964), and stepchildren; Philip Medlyn, Jim Medlyn, and Susan Berry.
Dearly loved mother of Edward “Ted” Gilchrist, Katharine “Kathy” Axford, and Connie Mills (Russ). Cherished grandmother of Rich, Ben, Holly, Lindsay, Haley, and Don. Proud great grandmother of Grayson, Mikayla, Madison, Kate, Mila, Emma, Reese, Hadley, and Huxley. Remembered Aunt of Andrea Gordon (Winston), John Gordon (Kimberly), Jamie Gordon (Sue), and Valerie Laidlaw (Kevin).
Since the 1950’s, Lois was an active member of Central United Church, where she was active in several groups, including over 60 years in the choir. Mom lived the life of a devoted Christian, exemplifying the virtues of faith, hope and charity with demonstrated humility, patience and selflessness – always rooting for the underdog. Mom had a long career in hairdressing, owning and operating Lois’ Beauty Salon. She and her husband Chris operated Gilchrist Coffee Shop in the 1960’s (the first place locally to offer soft serve ice cream and arguably the best hamburgers in town.)
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and the interment of her cremated remains will be made privately in Elmdale Memorial Park at a later date. Flowers respectfully declined. If so desired, please consider making a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of one’s choice.
