Hewitt Frederick ‘Gary’ March 29th 2021

Hewitt, Frederick ‘Gary’
March 29th, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of our lovely Gary at Victoria Hospital on Monday, March 29, 2021, at the age of 78. Beloved husband of 31 years, of Annette (Vandelaar) Hewitt and dearly loved father of Todd Hewitt and Cory (Rachel) Hewitt. Grandfather of Crystal and Chantelle; and great-grandfather of Stephanie and Noah. Dear and loyal brother of sisters, Donna Hewitt and Sam Fletcher (Dave). Gary was also uncle to several nieces and nephews. Gary was born in London on March 12, 1943, son of the late Marie Lenore Hewitt, Frederick George Hewitt and stepmother Molly Hewitt. Gary was a loyal and devoted father, husband, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to those close to him. He loved Annette fiercely. Gary, a dangerously handsome and “enthusiastic” young man with a dazzling smile, finally found his calling at the City of London Fire Department, where he was fondly nicknamed “Cricket”. He eventually made his way to the rank of Captain to the best crew out there, of which he was very proud. Gary, a well-organized leader, always had a second (or third… or fourth) plan to ensure care, safety and success for those on his team, both personally and professionally. Gary was proud to be a firefighter. His garage was a testament to how meticulous he was in everything he set out to do. Cremation has already taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 1:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. Gary would appreciate firefighters in dress uniform. Registration is required to attend.

  1. Annette, please accept condolences from Michael and me for your sudden loss. We are reeling in shock at the loss of our beloved next door neighbour. Who will keep an eye out on our neighbourhood now? Who will track the pesky bunnies with Michael? What handsome firefighter will show up to dazzle me in my backyard dressed in his full formal wear? Who will ever take me on another motorcycle ride (I would never trust anyone but Gary!)? Gary was the kindest, most considerate, most caring neighbour anyone could ever have and he will be deeply missed. You know Michael and I are both here for whatever you need. All our love to you during this difficult time.

  2. My heart breaks for you and your family. I know how much you loved each other and were truly best friends. I am thinking of you during this difficult time. I’m sending you my love and heartfelt sympathy.
