Bernadette Mary Bunny Tierney nee Dunnigan Monday March 29th 2021

Bunny was taken gently by the hand of her guardian angel as the sun rose on March 29, 2021, the culmination of a 10-year affliction with Alzheimer’s disease.
She is survived by her cherished and loving family including Justice Charles Tierney, her husband of 57 years; children Julie (Kirk Arnold) Carolyn (Rob Simpson), Patti (Rob Sloan), Stephen (Erin Stoqua), Lori (Brian McAlpine) and Janet (Keith Theobald); adoring grandchildren Danielle, Jack, Scott, Jed, Calum, Shea, Luke, Mhairi, Meredith, Shane and Ella. Bunny is pre-deceased by brothers Frank and George and is survived by her younger brother John and her many & much loved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in 1935 on Easter Sunday to parents George and Agatha (nee Quinn), Bunny was guided to a deep and abiding faith in Christ at an early age. She frequently expressed that the greatest loves of her life were Christ her Maker and Redeemer, husband and family in that order.
She enjoyed sports, especially cycling and golf but tennis was her favourite and she rarely missed a televised match which gave her great joy to watch (especially Federer). Her participation in sports was an important aspect of her life because it was often followed by socializing at which she excelled with her charm and humor. The objective always was to make others smile and be happy. In her wisdom, she knew that when expressed unabashedly, happiness and laughter are indeed contagious. And if it took a bit of quirkiness to make everyone laugh, so be it!
More than once, neighborhood children remarked in later years how impressed they were and taken aback when “this grown-up lady down the street” had engaged them in small talk as equals and at their level. A care worker commented recently: “Bunny is really someone special. I wish I had known her before her illness struck.”
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the management and staff at the Peter D. Clark Centre for the superb care; and indeed affection, provided to Bunny during her 4-year confinement, including compassionate palliative care during this difficult Covid time.
Bunny will receive her final sacrament at a private funeral mass on Monday, April 5 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. The family invites those who wish to participate in the service, to do so via the following link Funeral Mass Livestream Link for Bernadette Tierney. A Christian burial will take place in the Spring.
For those wishing, donations to a local food bank of your choosing would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements entrusted to the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry.
“If I ever hear a funny pun again, it will remind me of Bunny Dunnigan”
