Mabel Helen Loughead March 29 2021

Loughead, Mabel Helen – The family of Mabel Loughead announce the sudden passing of a great mother, grandmother and sister on Monday, March 29, 2021 in Colchester East Hants Health Centre at the age of 88.
Born in West St. Andrews, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Reta (Moore) Kent. Surviving are sons, Brian (Beverley), Tommy (Heather), Gary (Sherry), all of Truro; Ray, Halifax; daughters, Sandra MacKenzie (Roy), Truro; Karen Dean (Tony), Dean Settlement; sister, Helen O’Neil, Truro; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed very much by all of us.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband, Homer; brothers, Earl Kent, Victor Kent; sister, Carol Spencer; brother-in-law, Wayne O’Neil; sisters-in-law, Jean Kent, Linda Kent; great-grandson, Joseph; nephew, Kevin O’Neil.
Mabel worked at a number of jobs in Truro. She worked for 11 years at Kmart, and also at A. J. Walkers, Mary’s Grocery, and Zellers. She and her late husband, Homer also owned and operated their own grocery store, canteen and gas bar in Dean Settlement.
Mabel enjoyed visiting with her children and grandchildren. She also tried to have some treats available for them and loved to have the children cuddle up to her. Mabel also enjoyed going to bingo games, and loved to go to the Good Neighbors Club meetings in Truro.
During the years she lived at the apartment complex on Blanchard Avenue in Bible Hill and at Townsview Estates, she was a daily participant in the gatherings of her many friends in the common rooms. No meeting passed without her getting someone with a few zingers (particularly the men who were present). Her joy was to make people laugh. “Laughter is the best medicine” was her motto. Just before Mabel moved into Townsview Estates, her son Brian took it upon himself to warn (with a smile) one of the men who worked at Townsview Estates and was known for his fun loving zingers that he shared liberally with the residents, “You are about to meet your match!!” After 17 months of getting zinged by Mabel, we are sure he would say with a laugh, “Indeed, I did meet my match, and enjoyed every minute of it!”
In accordance with Mabel’s request, there will be no visitation or funeral. A graveside service will be held at a later date. Because of her love for children, Mabel requested that any memorial gifts may be made to IWK Health Foundation or a charity of your choice.
Special thanks to the staff and residents in Townsview Estates for the way you loved, laughed with and looked after Mabel for the 17 months she was with you. She loved all of you and her family was blessed by the wonderful way you cared for her.
