NOGANOSH, Elizabeth “Betty” – With profound sadness the family of Betty Noganosh (Soules) announces her passing, in her 74th year, at OSMH on March 29, 2021 following a lengthy illness. Betty’s early career included teaching on Christian Island and working for Catulpa Community Support Services, an agency dedicated to helping people with disabilities and unique needs. Betty then was an elementary teacher with the Simcoe District Board of Education for 29 years. As part of her ongoing commitment to learning, she obtained her Special Education Specialist Certificate and taught at many schools throughout Simcoe County.
In 1973 Betty joined the Rama First Nations Community and was active in the Rama United Church and all aspects of community life. In 1987 Betty began her decades of service as a member of St. Paul’s United Church. She belonged to many groups and could always be counted on to lend a hand wherever needed. She was also a strong supporter of Couchiching Jubilee House. In 2001, Betty was the recipient of the YMCA Peace Medal for her lifelong commitment to the promotion of peace and social justice, especially for her many years of work helping refugees settle in the Orillia community.
