Bertha’s Obituary
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Bertha Jane Payne announce her passing at Western Long Term Care Palliative Care on Saturday, March 20, 2021, at the age of 92 years. In her early years, Bertha was a teacher in the communities of Currant Island, Trout River and Rocky Harbour and then dedicated her life to raising her family. Leaving to mourn with fond loving memories are her children: Keith (Wendy), Dennis, Gerald (Brenda), Bernard (Susan), Selma and Clarson and a large circle of relatives including 28 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild. Bertha was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Payne (October 28, 2019) and daughter, Janice Payne (January 10, 2012). A private family viewing will be held at Country Haven Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, from where a funeral service will take place with Steven Joyce and Roy Foster officiating. Interment to follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, there are no flowers by request, in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bertha may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
