Obituary of Joel James Healy
Joel James Healy (SCWIG)
August 20, 1961 – March 18, 2021
Joel was born in Saskatoon on August 20,1961 and was adopted by Evelyn and Joseph Healy when he was 6 moths old.
Joel passed away peacefully in his sleep the morning of March 18, 2021.
He was preceded by his father, Joseph (1981); mother, Evelyn (2012); Step dads, Metro Lutz (2015) and Ernie Rolfe (1974); and brother-in-law; Randy Walchuk (2017). He leaves to mourn his sister, Jodi Walchuk and her three sons (his nephews) Kent (26), Ryan (23), and Mark (19); along with numerous relatives and friends.
Joel lived his live happily in Saskatoon for 4 years as an only child with Evelyn and Joseph before being blessed with a little sister (Jodi) in 1965.
He had many great years growing up there and spent many summers with friends and family at the cabin at Wakaw Lake. Evelyn and Joseph sadly divorced and a few years later and Joel moved just down the same street when Evelyn married Ernie Rolfe, who was a wonderful man and a great role model and influence on Joel. Sadly, Ernie passed away after just a few years together and that loss was devastating to Joel.
While in Saskatoon Joel attended Brevroot Park School and Walter Murray Collegiate. Then in 1978 the family made the move to the farm in Gooodeve, SK. when Evelyn married Metro Lutz; there Joel attended Melville Comprehensive School and helped out on the farm.
After school Joel moved away to find work and worked at various jobs from Baker to Roofer. His jobs took him to various cities across Saskatchewan such as Regina, Saskatoon, Yorkton and Moosejaw.
On his journey Joel met and married Julie Hyatt, and after 13 years of marriage they decided to part ways but remained great friends right up until his passing.
Joel remained single and settled permanently in Saskatoon. In his 30’s Joel was diagnosed with ‘Myotonic Dystrophy’ which is similar to Muscular Dystrophy, which made it impossible for him to work anymore, so he just spend most of his time visiting friends and helping out with what he could . In 2017 Joel made the move the Warman Mennonite Care Home, which was a beautiful place that he quite enjoyed and he remained there until his passing.
Joel loved being around family and friends, he especially loved kids. He was always chatting somebody up. Joel made friends easily and would never refuse a good card game. He had a big heart, quick wit and was always good for a laugh or two.
He will be sadly missed by Jodi and the boys and all who knew and loved him.
Rest Easy.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Joel
