Obituary
PASTOR STANTON RICHARDS
It is with great sadness we the family are announcing the sudden death of Pastor Stanton Richards on March 7, 2021 at the age of 81 years, Stan was a loving husband for 53 years to Nadine. Stan was also a father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great grandfather.
Stan was born Oct. 2, 1939 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin to Leland and Irene Richards.
He grew up in Wisconsin Rapids and from there he attended Augustana College and got his BA from there and went on to get his Master of Divinity at Augustana Seminary at Rock Island, Ill. He was ordained on June 21, 1967 at the Lutheran Church in Stanton, Iowa. This was a career he had wanted to do his whole life. He also did an Urban Residency Program in Trenton, New Jersey in 1984. He received his Master of Sacred Theology in 1985 from the University of Winnipeg.
The first call Stan had was at Broadview, Saskatchewan where he looked after three different congregations. The first service would start at 9, then after with his eldest son be behind the wheel, Stan and Nadine and four little children would drive 40 miles over to Clay Ridge for another service at 11 then back in the car for another 26 miles over to Stockholm for another service. Sometimes this would also include a fourth parish in Esterhazy. Then everyone would load up in the car to go home for an enjoyable evening of home made pizza and watching Walt Disney on TV. The next perish was in Beausejour, MB, then they moved to Trenton, New Jersey for more training. They came back to Canada in 1984 to Flin Flon, MB. Then another move to Winnipeg and finally to Selkirk, MB. This is where he stayed for the rest of his career which went far past the age of 65. Selkirk was where he called home.
Stan had several passions in life besides being a minister. He was also an avid photographer. He had a dark room for developing black and white pictures where he enjoyed seeing his passion coming to life. You could find numerous pictures that he took hanging in their family home. His love of dogs was well known to all. He loved them all equally and spoilt them all as equally.
Stan was preceded by his parents Leland and Irene Richards; one brother Byron Richards; several children, daughter, Ruth Ann Harris, two sons, Norman and Maurice Richards and one foster daughter Steffanie McKay.
Stan’s great sense of humor and insight on topics of life will be missed by his family.
Stan is survived by his loving wife Nadine Richards; his children, David (Elaine) Laire, Gary Richards, Marianne (Terry) Sarich, Aaron Richards, foster daughter Cheynne Williams and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held on Thursday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. A livestream of Stan’s service can be viewed via the link youtu.be/W9koI0EU45g
