Yvette (Betty) Marion McCormick
Passed away Mar 6/2021
Born in Otter Lake Quebec Aug 31 1920
On February 6, 2021, after a brief illness with Covid-19, Mrs. Betty McCormick of St Catharines Ontario
passed away at the age of 100 years.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Wesley McCormick. Which she was married to for 65 years.
Her parents Athanase and May Racine. Survived by her daughter Cheryl Kemsley, son in law Thomas
Kemsley, two grandsons David Kemsley, partner( Jessica Geen), Thomas Kemsley Jr and wife (Amanda
Kemsley), 5 grandchildren Emilia, Slade, Ila, and Weston.
Betty grew up on a farm in Otter lake Quebec that was a mixed farm, had a logging operation and a
maple sugar bush. From there she moved to Ottawa and resided there for part of the second world war
before moving to St Catharines for the remainder of her life. Betty lived and worked in St Catharines for
the majority of her life. Betty and Wes owned a variety store on Facer St for six years and made many
friends in this endeavor. She also worked at the Lancer restaurant for many years and at same time
Betty and Wes had a DJ business which was booked up a year in advance due to their popularity. Betty
loved the weddings, dances and such as it gave her the opportunity to dance every weekend. Which she
loved.
She was always popular with the younger generation and a lot of her friends were much younger than
her. Two special couples that she socialized with till her passing, Tara and James Harmon and Kelly and
Brian Tryhorn/Hoxie gave her much enjoyment. She had many friends at the Heatherwood retirement
home and enjoyed the staff as well.
Once she contacted Covid she put on a brave face battling the virus but inevitably lost the fight.
A celebration of her 100 th Birthday was planned for 2020 but cancelled due to Covid. The family regrets
that she never got to meet the great grandchildren who all live in Alberta with their families.
Betty will be cremated, and due to all family being so far away and unable to travel due to Covid there
will regretfully be no service.
Donations may be made to the St Catharine’s Humane society if so desired.
Remembering Mom
By Kelly Roper
There are many things I’ll remember
About my mom.
How soft her hands were,
How her eyes sparkled,
How her smile lit up her entire face.
I’ll remember the hearty sound of her laugh,
And the tone of her voice when
Someone disappointed her.
But most of all, I’ll remember how I felt
When she said to me, “I love you.”
That was the best feeling in the world,
To know this very special woman
Loved me with all her heart.
Of all the memories that may dim
In the coming years,
That feeling is something I know
I’ll never forget. And I just want to say,
I love you too, Mom.
