Obituary
William Douglas Bain
Mar. 28 1947 – Mar. 2 2021
It is with heartfelt sadness we announce that Doug passed away after an eleven month stay at Heritage Lodge.
Doug grew up and attended school in the Weston area. His passion for soccer was evident in his accomplishments of being recognized as the Sports Athlete of The Year, voted South Side All Streak as well as Centre for 2 years in a row. He would boast and laugh with his lifetime friend Dave Gaeta, who came in second place.
Doug was an active member of the Weston Boys Club. He enjoyed the many, many hours on the telephone organizing the annual golf tournament for many years. Doug’s career of choice, a successful and vibrant salesman, brought much satisfaction to him. His joy of being surrounded by people and organizing fun events included gatherings in our backyard; from the Weston Boys, TPI colleges, surprise Birthday parties and BBQ’s for friends and family including spontaneous socializing.
Doug was introduced to the race track at a young age of 3. He gathered the losing tickets that people threw on the floor, thus he was hooked. He fulfilled a dream of owning his first thoroughbred and of course led to owning two more.
In 1997 Doug chose me to be his wife and my children to be his family. He told me he has a second chance at a family and he proved it. Not only was Doug a loving, caring and great step dad, his lovingly fatherly authority earned him love and respect from their friends as well.
Doug was very compassionate and emotional. A number of years ago the passing of his ex-wife and then his sister was a very hard time for him. Doug enjoyed when his children Kellee, Brendan and Lindsay and his grandchildren would come for a visit. Eventually, Doug’s health issues prevented him from attending many social visits but most days he still enjoyed talking on the telephone.
Doug will be greatly missed by his wife of 24 years, Shannon; three step children, Lindsey (Tyler), Brock (Elisha), Garry (Kim) and step grandchildren, Silvi, Bryer and Brody plus his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from his previous marriage, his nephew and his family, cousins, as well as many friends.
Cremation has taken place. We will have a celebration of Doug’s life at a later date.
Goodbye Doug, go with God.
We would like to thank the staff at Heritage Lodge and Gilbart Funeral Home.
