Obituary
Kevin Joseph Hennessey
North Sydney
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin Joseph Hennessey on Thursday, March 4, 2021. Kevin was born in Reserve Mines to the late Catherine Hennessey-Morrison. On May 18, 1963, he married his wife of 58 years, Leona (Gouthro). Together they had three daughters, Karen (Richard) Foss, Kate (Kevin) Roland, Sheila Hennessey, and one son (and best friend), Bobby Hennessey (Maxine). He was a wonderful Papa to eleven grandchildren: Stephanie (Kevin), Kelsey, Jessica, Mitchell, Noah, Emma, Natasha, Olivia, Joshua, Reilly, and Sophia; and to three great-grandchildren: Iris, Andre, and Teddy.
Kevin was a miner in his younger years before studying to become a Steamfitter and Pipefitter. He was a proud member of the local Steamfitters and Pipefitters Union Local 682 for over 50 years. For most of his life, Kevin worked in and traveled for the construction industry across Canada, where his strong work-ethic was evident.
Kevin was very smart man, who could have meaningful conversations on any topic, yet was quiet, unassuming and humble. He was known to drop everything to help those in need. He was fiercely proud of and loyal to his family and friends. Kevin had a great love of the outdoors, especially hunting, gardening, and fishing with Mick, Bob, and his nephews. Kevin loved Cape Breton music and enjoyed having a nip to a good fiddle tune. He always had a good story to tell and had a wonderfully dry wit.
He is also survived by his step-sister, Catherine Nicholson and step-brother, Neil Morrison; his brother-in-law, Mick McCormick; and three sisters-in-law, Theresa Gillis, Sister Marcella Gouthro, and Evelyn Gouthro. Besides his mother, Kevin was predeceased by two sisters: Ann MacDonald and Margaret Rambeau; and by brothers- & sisters-in -law: Mike and Beth Gouthro; Frank Gouthro; Hilda McCormick, Jennie Silver, and George Nicholson.
The family would like to thank the entire Cancer Care team for the care given to Kevin during his illness.
There will be no visitation by request. A funeral mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Monday, at St. Joseph Church North Sydney, with Reverend Father Doug MacDonald officiating. Covid-19 restrictions regarding the wearing of masks, social distancing, and limited seating in the church will be in place. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
