Daniel Scherr March 4 2021

Obituary
SCHERR, Daniel
Daniel was born in Allan, SK on October 19, 1934 and passed away on March 4, 2021. He was the eldest of 7 children born to Valentine and Elizabeth (nee Boehm) Scherr. They moved to Langham in 1940 for one year, then moved to Radisson for another year. The family settled in Delisle in 1942 and he considered this his home town. He graduated from High School in Delisle and then moved to Saskatoon for a job as an electrician’s helper.
Daniel met Rose in Saskatoon at the St. Mary’s Saturday night dances and they were married in 1956. He became a journeyman electrician and worked at Canadian Westinghouse Supply Company for a year. They moved to Carrot River in 1961 where he continued his work as an electrician for E. B. Campbell Dam Site, installing turbines for the power house. When that job was completed, he started his own company. Later, he was hired by the Elevator Wiring Company to wire both old and new grain elevators. He continued this work for 15 years, traveling across the prairies working in Alberta and Manitoba, as well as Saskatchewan. By this time, they had four beautiful daughters and three handsome sons, including two sets of twins!
Daniel and Rose moved to Saskatoon in 1982. Dan continued working, selling life insurance for the Knights of Columbus until 1997, when he permanently retired. They also managed apartments and retired from this in 1999 at the age of 65.
Dan and Rose have been blessed with 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Dan was a very active member of the Knights of Columbus for 60 years, and has passed this passion on to his sons. He often planned his life around the Knights of Columbus activities including the Conventions, K of C State curling and other events. One of Dan’s proudest moments was being honoured with Knights of Columbus State Family of the Year Award in 2007. Many lifelong friendships were formed during these events.
He belonged to various curling leagues in both Carrot River and Saskatoon. He enjoyed volunteering with his children’s activities. Family time was always important, whether it was Christmas get-togethers, time at the cabin, fishing, golfing or camping.
Dan was very proud of the fact that he was part of designing and building the church in Carrot River. Dan and Rose have been very active in St. Anne’s Parish in Saskatoon.
Daniel was predeceased by his son Daniel, son-in-law Allan Carruthers, grandchildren Roxanne Grypiuk and Shane Resch, parents Valentine and Elizabeth Scherr, father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Annie Norrish, two brothers Charles and Art Scherr, two brothers-in-law Randy Schikowsky and Joe Sklar.
