James Patrick “Junior” Ash
1935-2021
Ash, James Patrick “Junior”, age 85, of Antigonish
passed away in the QEII Health Sciences Centre (New Infirmary),
Halifax, on February 21, 2021.
Born in Rear Monastery, he was a son of the late Patrick
James and Rebecca (Ash) Ash.
Though he lived in Toronto for a few years, Junior always
knew he wanted to move back home. He worked at StFX for a
number of years, and most recently was the property manager for the
co-op housing in Antigonish. Junior was a good family man
with an easy-going personality. He loved to tease, and he
loved woods, riding his tractor and four-wheeler, and going back to
the homestead.
He is survived by sons, James “Jimmy” Ash,
Antigonish; Stephen Ash, Halifax; and Allen Gero, Ontario; daughters,
Pauline, Roxanne, Lorna, and Tracey Ash, all of Ontario; and Donna
Gero, Antigonish; 13 grandchildren; sister, Evelyn Girard, Rear
Monastery; brothers, Kevin MacDougall, Monastery; and Robert Joshua,
London, ON; and several nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by his wife, Ida (Phee), siblings, Dorothy Daye,
Sarah Irving, Charles, Leonard, Alberta Izzard, and Shirley and Bertha
in infancy; and step-mother, Effie Desmond Lawrence.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7pm in C.L. Curry
Funeral Home, 135 College Street, Antigonish. Social
distancing protocols must be followed, and masks are
mandatory. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday at 11:00am in
St. Ninian Cathedral, Antigonish, Reverend Donald MacGillivray
presiding. The service will be livestreamed with a link
