Obituary of Donald Strachan
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Donald James Strachan, a longtime resident of Chetwynd, British Columbia, on February 16, 2021 at 69 years of age. Donald passed away at the Chetwynd General Hospital. Donald was a caring husband, father, son, uncle, friend and loving grandfather to 10. His strong family values is something that will carry on in his honour.
Donald was born in Doaktown New Brunswick to James & Rae Strachan. He grew up in the tight knit community of Boiestown where he and his two sisters Margret & Barbra grew up reaping all the beauty and wonders of the Miramichi. After high school Donald toured west where he met the love of his life Judy and their beautiful love story began.
Don and Judy shared 48 amazing years together. In 1977 they welcomed their first child Kelly, in 1981 their second child Kurt, in 1985 their third child Eric and in 1989 their fourth child Kayla. The years were filled with laughter, love and life lessons. Donald always prided himself on his wife, children and grandchildren and taught and instilled the wealth of knowledge that he was.
Throughout the years Don was what we liked to call a jack of all trades. From farming, to logging, to firefighting, to trucking, to gravel Don dipped his toes in a bit of everything but what he truly thrived at was being a grandpa, father and husband. If you ever brought a problem to Don, you could guarantee he would be able to supply you with an answer or a fix, they sure don’t make his kind anymore. When he wasn’t working you could find him travelling, hunting, farming, fishing, camping and most importantly spending time with his family. Don’s wisdom, sense of humour, work ethics and caring nature are a few of his traits that we will see carried on through his children and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by every person who’s life he impacted, whether it was in a large or small way.
He is predeceased by; his mother Rae Strachan, mother in law Stella Rosenau, father in law Jack Rosenau, sister in laws Agnes, Iona & Gloria. He is survived by; his wife Judy Strachan, his children Kelly (Brandi), Kurt (Jaylene), Eric, Kayla (Nathan), his grandchildren Ava, Ella, Jackson, Jett, Keston, Tucker, Presley, Harlynn, Bennett & Hendrix, his father James Strachan, his sisters Margret (Duncan) and Barbra and many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
At this time due to COVID-19 the Celebration of Donald’s life will be held at a later date announced by the family. For friends so wishing, donations may be made in Donald’s memory to the Chetwynd and District Hospital Foundation, Box 121, Chetwynd, BC V0C 1J0.
