Jean’s Obituary
Jean Riddell (Howitt) Smith born July 18th, 1923. She was born in Kelso, Scotland and came to Canada with her parents and brother Bill when she was 3. They settled on a farm close to Lintlaw, Sk. She went to school at Saskatchewan Valley School. Later went to work at Thompson’s cafe in Lintlaw where she met the love of her life, Jim Smith who predeceased her, passing away September 26th, 2011. They struck up a friendship and romance and married December 18, 1946. They had 3 children Rob (Louise) Sandra (John), Susan (Heinre) and 6 grandchildren; Troy Smith, Chris Soika, Paige Mcnamee, Jennifer Mcnamee, Aron Mcnamee and Tori Strydom. Great grandchildren; Jordan Soika, Elisa Soika, Jeron Soika, Julia and Ella Smith, and Casey Giesbrecht as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was an awesome cook and gardener and loved her flowers. Loved bingo and meeting her friends for coffee each day. She was a kind and very generous person to all. She loved taking care of people. She loved to sing and dance (and dancing she taught us), and loved her family with a big heart of gold. We can’t thank the Kelvington Lodge enough. They are outstanding and a special thanks to all that took exceptional care of her. Private family funeral at a later date.
