Service Details
It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend on Monday, February 1, 2021 at Fairview Care Home in Brandon, MB.
Eunice is survived by her loving husband of over 68 years, Albert (Ab) Hammell; three daughters, Elizabeth (Claude) Topping, Marjorie (Mike) Lane, and Laurie (Chuck) Ray; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Marty (Christie) Meg, Owen, Ty Topping; April (Brent) Marlee Basko; Carly (Sam) Elliott Rech; Abey (Matthew) Vaughn, Ashton Scaglione; Nadine (Jeff) Harper & “baby” Perreaux; Kyle (Nikki) Henry, Grace Ray; two brothers, Lloyd (Martina) Chambers, Hal (Darlene) Chambers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Harvey and Gladys Chambers; three brothers, Mervin (Spike) Chambers, Reg Chambers and Joe Chambers; daughter, Beverly LaChance; and grandson, Justin Ray.
Eunice was born in Elgin, MB. where she lived until she was seven when her family moved to Pierson, MB. Eunice attended school in both Elgin and Pierson until grade nine when she worked with various families including Wallace and Bessy Downey, who quickly became her second family. During these years she met the love of her life Ab, marrying him and moving to the family farm south of Pierson, where they raised their three girls.
Living across the road from her brother-in-law and sister-in-law John and Pearl Hammell and their five children made for one big family sharing chores and laughter over decades of good times and bad. Eunice loved her family and took great pride in her home making it a welcome place for family and friends to congregate. It was common place for the kitchen to be lined with make-shift tables and benches for Sunday dinners. Her door was always open (except to the flies or bats) and will be remembered fondly for her cooking including family favourites of buns, chicky stew, cookies and rice pudding which no one could duplicate.
Ab and Eunice left the family farm in 2016 due to health issues moving to Brandon but never forgetting the fond memories of life on the farm. The nursing staff at Fairview Care Home took excellent care of Eunice over the past 4 years treating her as family. Love was the theme of her life, she gave it freely and in return spent her life surrounded by it right until her last breath.
Due to the current covid19 restrictions a graveside service to celebrate Eunice’s life will be held at the Pierson Cemetery, Pierson, MB. at a later date. The date will be posted to this website when it becomes available.
Donations in memory of Eunice can be made to the Pierson Cemetery Fund (c/o Municipality of Two Borders, Box 429, Melita, MB R0M 1L0) or a charity of your choice.
