Jenő Vermes
March 24,1934 – January 26, 2021
Jenő Vermes, beloved husband of 64 years to his high school sweetheart Maria (nee Horvath), passed peacefully at the age of 86. Predeceased by his sisters Irma and Franciska. Proud Dad to Enikő (Larry), and Anthony. Born in Kőszeg, Hungary, Jenő fled his homeland after the Hungarian revolution with his soon to be wife Maria on a snowy winter day. After marrying in Vienna they came to Canada, settling in Montreal where he began his career in construction. He brought his family to Ottawa when he became part of the team that built the National Arts Centre. After many years working for others, he ran his own successful commercial HVAC company. His family, friends, faith and the Hungarian community were very important to him. He was a man who could never sit still and was happiest building, creating and renovating anything that involved using his considerable skills. He will be missed. A private mass will be held at St George’s.
For those who wish, donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute are appreciated.
Our most sincere sympathies to the family and friends of Jeno Vermes Tuesday January 26th 2021..
