CURRIE, Annmarie – It is with strength, courage and faith that we share the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, nana, sister, wife, and friend, at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, December 30, 2021, one day after her 72nd birthday and just seven short weeks after her cancer diagnosis. Annmarie was a loving mother to Joanie (Ryan South), a treasured nana to her best girls Murphy and Pyper, who meant the world to her, a cherished sister of Mary (Mike Metcalf), Carmel (Morris Reid), and Jacki (Selwyn Langlois), and a caring wife to John. She will also be dearly missed by her nephews Yuri and Pat, nieces Tammi and Lacey, cousins, neighbours, the Currie family and many special friends, including her card ladies, her quilting circle, and her church family.
Annmarie was born on Bell Island, to Patrick and Mary Murphy (both predeceased), the family moved to Galt in 1964. She worked hard all her life at manufacturing plants including Mittens and Savage Shoe, but most enjoyed her years as a cook at Mary’s Place and for priests of the diocese. She graciously spent many hours volunteering with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and as Eucharistic Minister and member of the social committee at St. Anne’s parish.
She enjoyed time with family and friends, playing cards, sharing her cooking skills and sewing quilts that she generously gifted. Her door was always open, and there was always a place at her table to enjoy a cup of tea, her baking treats or a home cooked meal often featuring seafood or traditional Newfoundland dishes.
The family is especially grateful to Father Brian Quigley and Father Mike King for their friendship and spiritual support for many years, to the dedicated staff at Corbett Funeral Home for their compassionate assistance, and to the caring home care providers.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Anne’s RC Church, 268 East Ave, Kitchener on Tuesday, January 4, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment to take place at Mount View at a later date. Due to COVID-19 protocol, masks will be required, social distancing must be adhered to, attendance is limited, and you will be asked to sign in.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Comboni Missionaries, Canadian Donor Options – Comboni Missionaries (mcssl.com) or Marillac Place, marillacplace.ca/donate.
