Sadly, John Bernard Turley, a long-time resident of the Town of Mount Royal, passed away in Guelph, Ontario on December 27, 2021 at the age of 95 years after leading a full and happy life.
John was the beloved husband and best friend of the late Vera Mary Solinas Turley and the proud father of Barbara (Bob McIntyre), Anne (John Yach) and David. He was also the cherished “Papa” of five grandchildren – Michael (Margaret Schwan), Carolyn and John McIntyre (Anthony Gatensby) and Julia and Emily Yach and three great grandchildren – Emmett, Abigail, and Dylan McIntyre.
John’s family was very important to him and brought him much joy. He particularly enjoyed the family vacations in Kennebunk Beach, Maine, Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida and Far Hills Inn, Val Morin.
John was well-known in TMR. A parishioner of Annunciation of Our Lady for over 60 years, he was one of the founding members of the original choir, a member of the Parish Council and the Board of St. Joseph School.
A life-long member and volunteer of Scouts Canada, he was a King Scout, a proud member of the Honourable Society of Knights of Tamara and a Scoutmaster of the 1st Mount Royal Scoot Troop. Camp Tamaracouta in the Laurentians was one of John’s favourite places. Over the years, he was active within Scouts Canada at the district, provincial and national level and was recognized for his long service with several honours.
John was President of Burton & Turley for over 35 years. He was a chartered insurance professional (FCIP) and volunteer of the Insurance Institute of Canada and a long-time lecturer at McGill University.
His family wishes to thank Dr. Marcel Parent and the nursing staff on 4 West at the Guelph General Hospital for the loving care they provided these last few weeks. In addition, thanks to the staff and residents at the Village of Arbour Trails where John lived for the last several years.
John will be interned in Guelph and a private, family celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Guelph General Hospital Foundation in his memory and would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
