It is with great sadness that the family of Aubrey Stewart Zinck, Sr. 88, of Mahone Bay and formerly of Lunenburg, announce his passing on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay, with his partner and best friend Kaye Joudrey, holding his hand.
Born in Lunenburg, he was the son of the late Stewart and Alexie (Langille) Zinck.
Aubrey started his working career at the age of sixteen, sealing in Newfoundland and Labrador. He later returned to work as a pipefitter on the boats for the Lunenburg Foundry and Engineering as well as in Riverport. Following this, he joined forces with Gordon Hynick to form, Zinck and Hynick Painters, which they operated for many years. Aubrey owned many homes in the town of Lunenburg and provided housing to many families in need of apartments.
Active within his community, Aubrey was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg where he was an Elder and was actively involved for over 65 years with the IOOF. He joined the Rising Sun Lodge # 59 in Lunenburg and transferred to Maple Lodge # 109 and was present member of Empire Lodge # 106, Petite Rivere and the Emerald Rebekah Lodge # 66, holding various degrees within the lodges. He was also a member of the German Cultural Club and the Birthday Buddies Club and found great contentment at his cottage/home at Lake Mush a Mush, trips to Newfoundland and travelling across Canada with VIA rail stopping at many cities along the way and visiting Tofino, BC. He enjoyed country music, dancing and was a frequent visitor at many music jam sessions.
Aubrey is survived by his partner, Kaye Joudrey of Middle Cornwall; daughter, Jocelyn (Eric) Wentzell, Maplewood; daughter-in-law, Nancy Zinck, Lunenburg; grandchildren, Merri, Melissa (Robert), Melanie (James) Misha (Shane), Marsha (Everett) and great-grandchildren; Ethan, Lily, Nathaniel, William, Rylee Ann, Max and Maddison; Kaye’s extended family, Dachia, Beverly, John and Teresa, Shaunessey (Susanne), Ashley, Liam and Aylish; sisters, Marguerite Tanner, Heckman’s Island and Barbara (Robert) Smith, Huntsville, ON. And several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Aubrey was predeceased by his first wife, Aileen, son Aubrey Jr. and an infant son, Michael.
Funeral Arrangements are under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg. With Covid -19 restrictions a private family funeral service to celebrate Aubrey’s life will be held Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg, Rev. Suk Ho Lee and Rev. Paul Jensen, officiating. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Lunenburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to South Shore Regional Hospital, Mahone Nursing Home or St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Lunenburg.
