1926-2021
The passing of Aneta Elaine Frances (Hersey) Benson, wife of
William “Buddy” Benson of Grand Manan, N.B. occurred at the
Grand Manan Nursing Home on December 18, 2021. Born in Central Grove,
Digby County, N.S. on December 17, 1926, she was a daughter of the
late Frederick and Vangie (Delaney) Hersey. She was a loving wife,
sister, sister-in-law, and aunt. In addition to her husband Buddy,
Aneta is survived by one sister, Jean Prime of Wolfville, N.S.; one
sister-in-law, Edith Cook of Grand Manan; and several nieces, nephews,
and cousins. Besides her parents, Aneta was predeceased by her first
husband, Romaine Buckman; her brother, Arthur Hersey; her nephew,
Laurence Cook; and her niece, Tanya Cook.
In early adulthood, Aneta worked various jobs in and around
Digby County. She moved to Grand Manan to take a position as a
housekeeper, and then after marrying Buddy she devoted her life to
maintaining their home. Aneta was a long-time member of the Seal Cove
Wesleyan Church, and through her church used her skill as a knitter to
provide mittens to those in need.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George. In keeping with Aneta’s
wishes, there will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held
at Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring. For those wishing to do so,
donations to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by
the family.
