Norbert (Bert) Halyk, born January 20, 1936, near Sheho, SK to Nellie and Barney Halyk, passed away on December 4, 2021, in his 85th year. Surrounded by many who loved and appreciated his gifts and generosity, he is survived by his wife of 40 years, Velmarie, his daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Roberto Briones and granddaughter, Victoria Marie. His brother and sister-in-law, Silas Halyk and Catherine Knox: children’s mother, Glenda: niece, Judy (Harm) their children, Griffin, Jennifer, and Ricki; nephews: Randy (Audrey) their children, Benjamin, Nicholas, and Asya (and family); Trevor (Gail) their children, Tia and Kyle; Ivan (Purl) their 4 adult children (and families). He was predeceased by his infant sister, Augusta; mother, Nellie; and father, Barney. Bert was a retired social worker and an artist-at-heart. He was devoted to his family; loved the outdoors, wildlife, fishing, camping, and traveling.
A private viewing for immediate family will be held on December 24, 2021, at Saskatoon Funeral Home. A formal memorial service to honour Bert will be held at a time during Summer 2022, as conditions allow. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation or the Meewasin Valley Authority would be appreciated.
Be at peace and fly free with the birds dear Bert. Your love, memories, and legacy will forever be with us.
