À la mémoire de
David Symsyk
6 mars 1963 –
10 décembre 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden death of Dave Symsyk at the age of 58.
He was a much-loved brother, son, uncle, and friend. Dave was predeceased by his parents Julian and Helen Symsyk, his older brother, Paul, and his cats, Homer and Sylvester. He is survived by his sister Carolyn Bailey and brother-in-law Denis, his best friend Lisa Martin, his nieces, Andrea Bailey and her partner Jason Wright, and Alison Bailey and her partner Matthew Harrington, and by his 6-year-old nephew and favourite person, William Harrington.
Dave grew up and lived in west-end Toronto. He attended Humbercrest Public School, Runnymede Collegiate Institute, and graduated from Ryerson University. He worked as a videographer.
Dave loved being an uncle and was truly great at it. He sat at the kids’ table, built hamster cages, pillow forts, and racetracks, held funerals for pets (the only ones he cried at), went on endless candy store runs, taught everyone to use a band saw at an age that is way too young to use a band saw, and made everything more fun.
Dave lived life on his own terms. He was a madman who kept toy cars in his safe, fed raccoons in his house, and fell off ladders while holding chainsaws. He was certainly misanthropic, and if you’re reading this he has probably yelled at you. But if people can be measured by how they treat the weak and helpless, Dave was an outstanding human. He was unfailingly kind to children and to animals. He was also hilarious.
We will get together to celebrate his life in the spring of 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund or to Toronto Animal Services.
