IT IS WITH PROFOUND SADNESS WE ANNOUNCE ANDREW, AGE 73,PASSED AWAY ON DECEMBER 9, 2021 AT THE DARTMOUTH GENERAL HOSPITAL FOLLOWING A TWO YEAR COURAGEOUS BATTLE WITH CANCER. HE WAS THE ONLY CHILD BORN TO HARRY AND MARY BAIRD (DECEASED) ON OCTOBER 1, 1948, IN GRAND FALLS, NL
BESIDES HIS PARENTS HE WAS PREDECEASED BY HIS FATHER IN LAW ARTHUR DAWE, AND HIS YOUNGEST SON HARRY AGE 25 (KILLED BY A DRUNK DRIVER) IN 1999
LEFT TO MOURN HIS PASSING IS HIS PROUD AND LOVING WIFE OF 53 YEARS, RITA (DAWE); HE WAS SO VERY PROUD OF HIS CHILDREN AND FAMILY AND THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENTS; HIS SON, ANDREW (VICTORIA) OF LEAMINGTON,ONT, DAUGHTER, DAPHNE LOVE (STEPHEN) OTTAWA, ONT. GRANDCHILDREN , ANDREW (CHAYAN) SURREY BC: FELICIA PERRON (BRANDOM MCNEELY) , OTTAWA, CAEL LOVE OTT…2 GREAT GRANDDAUGHTERS SUMMER AND CHLOE BAIRD BC, . MOTHER IN LAW EDITH DAWE GFW, SISTERS IN LAW, SHIRLEY BUTT (CLAUDE), GFW, DONNA FREAKE (WOODROW) GFW, BROTHER IN LAW BILL DAWE (JUANITA)ST JOHNS, SPECIAL COUSIN KELLI MACKENZIE (MIKE)NUMEROUS NIECES AND NEPHEWS, COUSINS, AUNTS, UNCLES AND MANY FRIENDS. HE WILL BE MISSED BY HIS FURBABY, SOPHIE, HIS CHIHUAHUA WHO GAVE HIM SO MUCH LOVE , COMFORT AND LAUGHTER DURING HIS JOURNEY.
HE JOINED THE CAF IN 1965 AND AT THE TIME OF HIS RETIREMENT WAS THE CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER OF DENTAL SERVICES FOR CANADA. FOLLOWING RETIREMENT HE CONTINUED EMPLOYMENT WITH DENTAL SERVICES IN A CIVILIAN CAPACITY AS DIRECTOR OF PROCUREMENT, FOR A TOTAL OF 49 YEARS SERVICES. HIS POSTINGS INCLUDED NDHQ OTTAWA, NATO FORCE AT CFB BADEN GERMANY, CFB GAGETOWN (3),CFB HALIFAX(2),CFB SHEARWATER, CFB GREENWOOD AND CFB GANDER/ST JOHN’S, AND A 6 MONTH NATO TOUR IN CYPRUS. HIS FAMILY WERE VERY PROUD SUPPORTERS OF THE MILITARY. ANDREW AND HIS FAMILY ARE ALSO MEMBERS OF THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION
ANDREW WAS AN AVID VOLUNTEER SUPPORTING THE MANY ACTIVITIES OF HIS CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN. HIS PASSION WAS HIS MUSIC- PLAYING GUITAR AND SINGING. HE ENJOYED PLAYING WITH A BAND AT NUMEROUS SENIOR HOMES IN HRM..HIS GREATEST PRIVILEDGE AND HONOR WAS PLAYING ON THE BOARDWALK IN EASTERN PASSAGE WITH HIS “FAMOUS MUSICIANS” HAYWARD STRICKLAND AND JOHNNY DRAKES OF LUKEYS BOAT,(PRODUCED HIS CDS) , AND HIS “BEST BUD” ALLAN COX, HE HOSTED A WEEKLY JAM SESSION IN HIS APT COMPLEX AND ENTERTAINED MANY TENANTS . HIS FRIENDS CALLED HIM ‘SOCIAL DIRECTOR’ AS HE PLANNED AND ORGANIZED TRIPS, DINNERS, SPECIAL EVENT PARTIES FOR HIS FRIENDS. MANY SATURDAY EVENINGS HE COULD BE FOUND AT THE NFLD CLUB DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY WITH “THE GANG”. HE WAS A PROUD NEWFOUNDLANDER’.
DONATIONS IN HIS MEMORY WOULD BE APPRECIATED TO THE SPCA , 13 DUGGAN STREET, GFW , NL OR TO ANIMAL SHELTER OF YOUR CHOICE….HIS WISH IS “BE KIND TO
ANIMALS
CREMATION HAS TAKEN PLACE. MILITARY SERVICE WILL TAKE PLACE IN THE SPRING 2022.
SPECIAL THANK YOU TO THE PALLATIVE CARE TEAM OF DOCTORS AND NURSES, 4 EAST, WHO GAVE VERY PROFESSIONAL CARE AND COMPASSION TO ANDREW AND HIS FAMILY.
TO MY HUSBAND………WHEN WE GET TO THE END OF OUR LIVES TOGETHER, THE HOUSE WE HAD, THE CARS WE DROVE, AND THE THINGS WE POSSESSED WON’T MATTER…..WHAT WILL MATTER IS THAT I HAD YOU AND YOU HAD ME….FOREVER AND ALWAYS I WILL LOVE YOU, RITA
